The State of New Hampshire, Department of Justice, Civil Law Bureau, has a full time vacancy for a Legal Secretary III.
To render legal secretarial services for attorneys and paralegals in the Federal Litigation Unit of the Civil Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office.
Types pleadings, memoranda, and letters; transcribes interview tapes, and composes cover letters to ensure the timely, accurate completion of documents.
Organizes and maintains case files, research files, forms files, and miscellaneous files to enable retrieval of documents.
Maintains calendar and case management system for assigned attorneys to ensure that deadlines are met, work is completed in a timely manner, and matters are monitored on a routine basis.
Contacts state agencies, citizens, legislators, attorneys and court personnel to schedule hearings, meetings, or conference calls, and to direct parties to the appropriate entities.
Prepares briefs, including proofreading, checking citations for correct format, preparation of tables of authorities and contents. Oversees filing of briefs, notices of appeals and appendices thereto with courts in compliance with state and federal rules governing format, filing and service.
Receives, logs and calendars habeas corpus petitions and maintains records for prompt retrieval of information.
Answers main telephone console and directs callers to appropriate in-house bureaus or refers callers to state, federal or other entities, on an as-needed basis.
Opens, stamps, sorts and logs incoming mail to track that mail through the Office of the Attorney General and routes it to the correct person, on an as-needed basis.
Maintains contract log on computer to ensure tracking and follow-up on all contracts submitted for approval.
