Litigation Paralegal

Hawkins Parnell & Young, LLP is seeking a tech-savvy, highly-motivated litigation paralegal with either a paralegal certificate or paralegal experience to join its Chicago litigation team. The successful candidate must pay attention to detail and have a willingness to learn from and support an enthusiastic and vibrant group. This opportunity offers a broad experience to talented individuals who wish to be challenged in their day-to-day responsibilities. Recent graduates of paralegal programs and those who have applicable experience are encouraged to apply. This position offers partially remote work after six months and when meeting expectations. Flexible hours and occasional travel availability are a must.

HPY represents a variety of clients from global corporations to small local businesses, with litigation occurring coast to coast. This work includes high-risk litigation, defending companies in cases across the country. The successful candidate will be based in Chicago and work as a part of a national team of 300 lawyers and professional staff.

Responsibilities include:

  • Case management involving maintaining databases, document control, calendaring docket deadlines and coordination and monitoring of local counsel
  • Preparation and organization of a variety of pleadings, motions, documents, forms, charts, letters, presentations, reports
  • Deposition and record review and summaries
  • Facilitating expert retention, providing materials to experts, and coordinating deadlines for expert reports, depositions
  • Trial assistance including organizing trial documents and exhibits
  • Preparation for depositions
  • Preparation for hearings
  • Document review and production
  • Draft discovery documents and form pleadings/motions
  • Requesting and organizing records
  • Maintain client records
  • Assisting with analysis of trends
  • Assisting with e-filing

We are looking for a candidate with the following attributes:

  • Proficient in MS Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Familiar with managing databases and document management systems
  • Proficient in e-discovery and document review software
